MoneyFellows

Because of the current COVID-19 situation and its impact on financials, I chose to write my third review about an app that I believe can solve a problem for anyone of us, hoping it can help.

Four things I like:
  • Brilliant idea
MoneyFellows introduced a brilliant idea of digitalizing the traditional Gameeya concept. Now, you can enter a Gameeya with some trusted strangers (tricky, ha?) and complete the cycle without looking for friends or family members to join, and without all the embarrassment of deciding who takes the money first (I know how it feels, I have been there.). I just love it!
  • Clean UI design
Most of the screens are beautiful, clean, and have enough white space. They have to be, especially with the complexity of the idea itself to some people.

  • Displaying legalities and detailed T&Cs
As a user, it is very important to me -in an app that is asking to take monthly cash installments from me without a product/service in return- to see how serious this company is. What I like about MoneyFellows, is that they display their detailed Terms & Conditions in the app. Not only that, in their FAQs, they also confirm they are a registered company in both Egypt and the UK. And if you decided to join one of their circles (Gameeya), they will ask you to sign a contract to maintain their legal form too.

  • It is localized!
You can use MoneyFellows in English or Arabic, yes! I know how much of a big deal this is for app developers, designers, and testers but I believe in this specific case (considering Moneyfellows' target segment), it is definitely worth it. Keep up the good work!

Three things I dislike:
  • Ambiguity
Although the app displays some onboarding/instruction screens when you first open it after downloading, I totally find myself lost in the app. I don't know where to start, and what step has to be taken in order to move to a second step, what are the dependencies, and when can one user transaction successfully end.
As a first time user, I definitely need more guidance. Plus, more than one section in "My Account" page need further explanation.
7awadeet User Suggests:
- Creating a mascot to guide the user through each and every step, and maybe can answer his inquiries too. The mascot can be a funny wise old lady, to match the idea.
- Adding an Illustrative video that can be played anytime.
- Improving FAQs section to include logically sequenced questions with more graphical elements.
  • Illogical Recommendations
After the app asks you a couple of questions to know how much money you can afford to pay in a Gameeya each month, the app gives you recommendations on its home screen. For me, the app recommended a Gameeya with a monthly installment that was much higher than what I recorded as my monthly income, which doesn't make sense. The whole "Recommended for you" section doesn't look right to me, not only because of the inaccurate suggestions but because it not understandable in any way.
7awadeet User Suggests:
- With the recommendations, display the reason/algorithm behind these suggestions/recommendations. For example: "Join this circle now as it starts in 2 days!", or "Join this circle now as it has only 1 empty spot!", or "Join this circle now because the payout is exactly matching your target goal!". Messages like this can be better illustrated using graphical elements, I believe.

  • Unorganized circles
"Circles" is the main product Moneyfellows sells. However, all available circles are listed on one page, with very basic search, and without any sorting or filtering functionalities. If I were them, I would have invested much more in this page.
7awadeetuser Suggests:
- Allowing users to filter and sort by "Empty Spots", "Starting Date", "Moneyfellows Fees" and "Payout Amount".

*I'd like to highlight that I've taken these comments through browsing the app, but I haven't yet tried the provided service myself or joined any circle to continue the rest of the process.
